beginning as an NGO, in March 2007, ADDHU has developed in particular
projects of Cooperation with developing countries. In the field of Education
for Development there are already projects being prepared for 2008.
Cooperation with developing countries
Projects already accomplished:
- Nepal (Chitwan rural areas)
It has been
developed a programme in Chitwan rural areas, in Nepal, where prevails
poverty and a weak social and economical development, thickened by political
instability, consequence from a recent civil war. The war is now over, but
the guarantees of political, social and economical rights that exist aren’t
yet enough. This programme, still on course, has the following primary
goals:
a) Improve
the population living conditions;
b) Promote
the rural zones development;
c)
Contribute to reduce poverty and asymmetries between South and North.
In
cooperation with the NGO Rural Community Development Program (RCDP), whose
head office is in Nepal, ADDHU performs the following activities:

Support the children of the Asna Orphanage in Rampur, Chitwan.
ADDHU’s mission has given them scholar equipment, medicines, clothes and bed
covers. The orphanage has received also a refrigerator given by ADDHU.

2008.

October 2007, Laura Vasconcellos, ADDHU’s President, went to Kenya to report
the urgent needs and choose the target areas on witch humanitarian aid was
most needed. The Kenyan NGO Capital Youth Association (CYCA) asked for
ADDHU’s assistance in this matter and became
Cooperative Partner.
2. The
report about the current situation in Kenya, sent from CYCA to ADDHU,
considers that the most important action fields were:

food and urgent primary goods, mainly in poor neighbourhoods and orphanages;

centres

to the importance of the hygiene cares;

the possibilities of using the natural resources in a sustainable way,
specially water, a scarce resource in several areas.
3.
During the trip, sanitary-pads were given to slums young women. These
sanitary-pads were granted by the Renova company and trough campaigns near
the Portuguese community in supermarkets Pingo Doce.
4. The
ADDHU/CYCA Center for Orphaned Children is being created, near Nairobi. This
orphanage will host orphan children from Nairobi’s slums, and many of them
are HIV/Aids infected. The Centre’s first rent has been paid and the CYCA’s
staff is preparing the building to open as soon as possible
5. A
partnership with Foundation for Orphaned Children (FOC) was established,
which will allow the development of a sponsor program to several children
from the Nairobi’s slums. Trough monthly donations, anyone can be engaged in
the development of an orphan. There will be also the possibility of
sponsoring the children who live in Orphanage.
6.
The fundraising programme “Gifts of Hope” aims to improve the living
conditions of these children. Trough this programme, it will be possible to
contribute to provide the ADDHU/CYCA Centre for Orphaned Children with
necessary materials and support the children. Each contribution has a
specific destination (health products, education materials…), chosen by the

Vasconcellos, about the drama lived by youth and children in Cambodja,
Taiwan, Laos, Vietnam and Burma, victims of sexual exploitation and human
beings traffic. It is ADDHU’s wish to invite Somaly Mam, founder of the NGO
AFESIP to be present on the play premiere in Lisbon, occasion in which she
will be able to address some words concerning this cruel reality of her
country. The author rights of the play will be totally given to AFESIP
through ADDHU, and we also hope to have the audience and theatre
professionals support. The play will also allow informing people about the
sexual exploitation and human beings traffic in several Asian countries
problems.
- Organization of photography exhibitions, by Laura
Vasconcellos, in order to raise funds and to inform about the Human Rights
violations in the world.
Beyond the announced projects, ADDHU doesn’t forget that Human Rights
violations are constant. Therefore, ADDHU will also develop other actions in
order to identify these violations and to try to prevent or eradicate them.
These actions include preparatory visits to developing countries, namely
Asian, as one of the reasons ADDHU was born was to support the Aung Sun Suu
Kyi cause in Burma, in order to develop humanitarian help projects.
ADDHU believes living conditions, as bad as they can be, can
also be changed and dignified, if we act together with the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights.
